Movie Review: Brave

^Check out her hair! Isn't it cool?
I was really excited when my parents told us we were going to see the Disney/Pixar movie "Brave" yesterday! I love Disney/Pixar. Cars, Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Incredibles...all of 'em.

Did Brave live up to my high expectations? Read on to find out...

Basic Plot Outline:
Merida is a young girl living in Scotland with her mother Elinor, a queen, her father Fergus, a king, and her three squirly (and adorable) little brothers, Harris, Hubert, and Hammish. Queen Elinor is determined to teach Merida how a proper princess acts. Merida, however, would rather practice her archery, climb mountains, drink from giant waterfalls...just normal everyday stuff (sarcasm). Queen Elinor wants Merida to marry a suitor. Merida is not so enthusiastic about this idea. Merida finds a witch (look for the Pizza Planet truck in this scene; it is one of the witch's carvings), and the witch makes her a spell which will, the witch guarantees, make Merida's mother change her mind about Merida having to marry a suitor. However, she forgets to tell Merida one teeny, tiny side effect of the will turn her mother into a bear. After her mother is turned into a (very proper) bear, Merida goes to the witch's cottage in desperate search of a potion/spell that will turn her mother back. Upon arriving, she finds that the witch is gone. However, the witch has left a message for her. Merida will have to "mend what has been broken" before the sunrise of the second day - otherwise, her mother will be a not-so-friendly bear...forever.

The talented voice actors/actresses starring in this film are...
^Kelly Macdonald as Merida. I'd never heard her in anything before (that I remember). She did a wonderful job! The accents in this movie are so cool :)! Merida is a very rebellious character in desperate need of mending her relationship with her mother.
^Emma Thompson as Queen Elinor. I totally didn't know it was Emma Thompson playing her! She did a great job.
Queen Elinor loves Merida very much, but is a little too caught up in Merida becoming a "proper princess." Merida AND Queen Elinor grow quite a bit in this entire movie, and their **SPOILER** relationship by the end of the movie is great **OK, SPOILER IS OVER.**

^Billy Connolly as King Fergus. Okay, so, I had no idea who this guy was (although his name is really familiar), but apparently he plays McSquizzy the squirrel in Open Season...weird...
Anyhoo, the king was pretty funny. He and Merida had a good relationship (even if that meant rebelling a bit against the queen's wishes ::uh-oh..hehe::). There is one ::ahem:: scene with him and a few other men where they need to use their pants (and apparently unders) to make a long we see them from the back, with no unders on. AHHHH! It was really unexpected and, I felt, unnecessary...

Plussss...a bunch of other cool people who weren't in the movie as much.

I enjoyed this movie. It was really cute, and it had very good morals of mending broken relationships (in this case, mother and daughter). The movie was quite predictable (well, what do you expect from a kids' movie?), and a couple scenes were unnecessary (::ahem::), plus there was a witch in it, and witchcraft. So those few things took away from the movie. If they had left those out, I would've liked it more. Also...there were a few bear scenes that might scare little kiddos (a little bit scarier than Disney/Pixar's typical "bad guys").

So, in conclusion, it wasn't my favorite Disney/Pixar movie, but it was a cute story with good lessons to be learned. I'd give it a four out of five stars. Click HERE to see the Plugged In Online movie review, which is a bit more in-depth :-).

p.s. Last night I watched Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows for the first time! Would y'all be interested in a review of it?

I just saw this yesterday and loved it! But mentioning what the mother becomes during the movie is kinda a spoiler, imo.

Bill Connelly looks like Uncle Monty from Series of Unfortunate Events.

Saw the movie today w my bro. It was cute, but definitely predictable-which was ironically surprising for me. I guess with all the hype about it from the past year practically i thought it was going to be something more original. I LOVEd her hair though. The animation was good too.

Good review Talia. Had a lot of fun with this one for the first half or so, but then after that, things started to go downhill for me and it lost my focus. Usually, I love the heck out of Pixar films but this one didn’t do much for me, except give me plenty of eye-candy to gaze at.
