An Amazing Time and a Prayer Request

I had an *amazing* time at the Rebelution. Details to come soon...and I just thought I'd let you know that today is the last day to enter the giveaway! Any entries entered tomorrow will NOT COUNT!! Thank you all who have entered so far :-). The giveaway is tomorrow!

As for the prayer request...please pray for my friend and her family, cause they are going through a tough trial right now. Thank you!

Things that are Hard...for ME

I'm reading through the book Do Hard Things again (it's by twin brothers Alex and Brett Harris), and this time it means a lot more to me. So much of what is said in the book I can really relate to, and I recognize it in my own life. I am learning to do things that are hard for me. I'm not trying to brag at all when I'm saying this, but usually writing devotions is not very hard for me. I've become complacent, and I've noticed that I've fallen into the mindset, "Other people think that what I'm doing is hard, so I'm good," but I'm not stepping out of my comfort zone and really doing hard things for God - at least not things that are hard for me. For some people, encouraging, music, sports, or something else comes really easily, and to other people it does not. I invite you to join me as I strive to step out of my comfort zone and out of my complacency and do hard things for the glory of God. Will you join me?

Extending the Giveaway...

Hey, girls. So, the giveaway is going good, but I don't have enough entries to give only one item per person. SOOO, I am thinking about extending my giveaway. If I get enough entries before (or ON) July 30th, then the drawing will continue to be on August 1st.

Thanks for understanding :-).

Tell your friends!

p.s. Thanks, Mary, for telling me that I said "June" instead of "July"! Thanks!

Yet ANOTHER Giveaway...

There are so many giveaways going on right now! Lovely Emily from Practically Pink (a blog I visit) is having a giveaway with a beautiful prize! Check it out here!

Very Excited For..

The Rebelution :-). It's going to be awesome and amazing - I know it! I am also excited that my cousin and aunt are coming with me and my mom. And I will get to meet Raquel there. Yes, pretty fun!

What are you guys up to?

Check out the Rebelution "Do Hard Things Tour" here (it's the last "Do Hard Things" tour!).

Where Did That Come From?

Have you ever realized that you become like who you hang out with? You may talk like them, dress like them, act like them...I've noticed recently that I've been saying, "Don't be a meaner," which is weird, because my friend Kayla (from Mulan, Jr.) and her niece Dani said "meaner." I didn't hang out with them until the play. It's kind of strange, actually.

1 Corinthians 15:33 says: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

It's obvious - we become like who we hang out with. So who are you hanging out with? What are you hanging around - bad music, bad TV shows, bad magazines and books? You may think that the bad stuff isn't affecting you, but it really is. I've caught myself thinking bad words, even if I don't say them (thinking them is just as bad). I'm not saying it's not okay to hang around nonchristians. I think it is okay, as long as we are influencing them for the better, not them influencing us for the worst (which often happens). If you are not making a stand for Christ and showing them God's love, then what's the point? Why do you want to hang around them if they are not helping you in any way? Even if bad stuff (or people) seems like "fun," the "happiness" will not last. So I advise you to really think about your friends (or so-called "friends."). Do they uplift you in Christ or tear you down? Do they influence you, or do you influence them? Are they pushing you to compromise your standards, or are you standing strong?

Psalm 1:1-2
 1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.

Hey, girls :-). Hope you are enjoying your summer. Just to let you know, so far there are only 9 people entered in the giveaway (there are 10 prizes). If there are no more people, someone will get 2 prizes. Sweet, huh? But still, I encourage you to enter the contest. Click the link on the right sidebar to check it out. >>>

What I'm Doing Today

This morning, I did my devotions, and it feels so great to do them! I'm reading "A Young Woman After God's Own Heart" by Elizabeth George, and I really encourage you to read it! Today my devotions werw about obtaining a heart committed to prayer. You cannot hate someone you are praying for. So, today, I challenge you to pray for your parent(s), sibs, and an enemy or person oyu really don't like.

Thank you girls for praying for me. I have been doing my devotions consistently and trying to attain and consistent, strong prayer life! Please continue to be in prayer! I am praying for all of you!

Last night, my brother had our cousin K spend the night. I'm assuming they had fun, because I woke up to loud laughing this morning! Now they are playing the lego Star Wars video game. Last night I also had fun with my cousin E, who did my hair (I did hers, too). She is very sweet and cute. It was also fun to see cousin B, who can make me laugh by the random things he says! I love them all.

Today, even more cousins are coming to visit (Et, Sa, & C), and Sa and C are staying at our house tonight, so I'm excited :-). My mom, dad, and aunts and uncles are taking my grandparents out for dinner because it is their 45th anniversary!!!

Happy anniversary, Gramma and Papa Duck. I love you :-)!

This morning we got e-mails from Haley, and I got one from my friend Araya. I was so excited! They are both doing well. Thank you for being in prayer for them ♥. Blessings!

What has been the best part of your day or week so far?

Great Post

There's a great post on Jocee's blog that I really encourage you to check out. I agree with her %100. It's called "Dear Society," and you can click here to go to it.

Experimenting With...

GIMP. Anyone have any tips for doing stuff on there? I'm still kinda trying to get stuff figured out...Spring Blog Designs had a helpful tutorial on making a background, so I'm gonna try that.

Thanks, girls!

He's Been There

Does God sometimes feel "up there" to you? Like He can't understand what we're going through?

When Jesus came to earth, I believe that one of the reasons He came was to show us. To show us what? That He understands us. He gets us. Even when no one else does. He went through terrible trials...friends betraying Him, people not understanding Him, and even death, plus lots of more hard things He had to go through. He knows everything that we're going through, and He understands us perfectly. He is all-knowing, so how could He not know what you're going through? He knew what you are going through, did go through, and will be going through even before the earth was made. But how could that be possible? It can't. At least, not without God. But, with God, all things are possible. Trust God with your problems. Talk to Him. Share what's going on in your life. I promise you that He cares about everything - even the small things, or the things you think are too big for Him to handle. He can handle them - trust Him. Check out what these verses say:

Matthew 11:29-30

29 "Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

John 16:33
33 "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Thanks :-)

Thank you guys for praying for me, since I have been neglecting my devotions. I did them yesterday and today, and it is so great to do them. So I just wanted to say thank you for your prayers :).

Now Introducing: Tania's Faith

Good news...last night, I got the OK from my mom to self-publish my next book, Tania's Faith! EEEEEEEEEhaha! *ahem* I wrote this book through
NaNoWriMo (which I totally recommend, by the way), and I am just so privileged to be able to share it with others. Jesus Himself deserves all thanks and honor.

Times have been tough ever since young Kentucky girl Tania Burton's mother died four years ago. Nonetheless, she loves living in a country home with her Papa and little sister Maggie. When Papa informs them that he's getting married and that they're moving to a house on the Oregon coast, Tania angrily runs into the forest, only to find herself next to a magical river she's never seen before - a river that can heal wounds. When Tania falls into the river in her sleep, she discovers that she is no longer in Kentucky, but in a strange country called VaVoria, where animals talk, evil lurks, and people hide secrets that could change the course of Tania's life forever.

Tania's Faith is available here, as well as my other book, Girlz of God.

A Priority...or an Accessory?

Lately, I've been slacking in my devos and quiet times. I've gone on the Internet a lot, haven't been posting devos on the blog in a while, and have not been reading my Bible. Well, I'm here to tell you, I want to change. I'm going to try to change. I go through periods where I do my quiet times daily, and I go through periods where I don't do them at all. I've made my quiet times and God Himself an accessory instead of a priority.

It is amazing how good God is. No matter how long I ignore Him, push Him aside, neglect Him, still He waits patiently for me, sadly but most definitely surely.

Neglecting my quiet times with God and neglecting really talking to Him (not just surface-level "Thanks for the food. Amen.") is like having a guest wait in your living room for you to talk to them for hours on end...days on end...How could I leave God like that? Why am I leaving Him like that right now, today?

No more. God is so good, and He deserves so, SO much more than being neglected. He is amazing, loving, wonderful, indescribable, incomprehensible, incomparable, uncontainable, personal, understanding, caring, kind, just...and so much more. I do love God very much, but I am not showing it in my actions, words, and blog posts. It's time to change. It's time to erase the name "accessory" forever and give God, my quiet times, and devos a new name...priority.

1 Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

Daniel 9:9
But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.

Ephesians 4:32
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Deuteronomy 4:31
For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the solemn covenant he made with your ancestors.

Psalm 99:8
O Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but you punished them when they went wrong.

Hebrews 12:6
"For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”

New Topic

I want to post on a new topic, but I want to know what you girls would like to read. Please comment your ideas or e-mail them to me.

Here's a little inspiration for you.

I Know I've Posted a Lot About Giveaways, But...

...Emily at Sweet Serendipity is going to have a giveaway soon, Arianna from Lil' Miss Imperfect, Destiny from Sharing Endles L'amour, Princess from Pages from my Journal, and the team from Girls, God, and the Good Life are alll having giveaways! Click their names to check out their blogs.

A Tribute to my Play Friends

Mulan Jr. is officially over (check out the post before this one), but I thought I'd give a little "tribute" to some of my friends from the play (can you tell I'm gonna miss them?). It's kind of funny that the font I'm using for their names is "Everytime I Miss You." ☺
{1} Emily was outgoing and talked to me.
{2} David V. was funny and did random things. He wore sunglasses and a hat that looked like the mad hatter and didn't care what anybody thought.
{3} Dustin did a "funny walk" on purpose, where he would scurry around on tip-toes. He also called me "Beardy" and liked to quote Star Wars.
{4} David N. was friendly and said "good job" a lot.
{5} Kyle got hyped up on coffee (and the occasional red bull)...not good! He would zip around and say random things, like, "Superstar!" Then, afterwards, he would get reeeeally tired.
{7} Olivia was nice to talk to, friendly, and a sweet girl.
{8} Autumn and Emma could be found dancing and singing in the dressing room, and they didn't care if anyone was watching.
{9} Mikaela was fun and added a lot of spunk to her character (Mushu).
{10} Thaddeus was funny (and he had lame pickup lines!).
{11} Kayla is fun and unique.
{12} Dan and Anita, the directors, were really kind. I love them both!
And, although I've known her longer than the play, Danica is a really good friend to me, and she prayed with me before every performance.

It's Over...

Tonight was our last performance for Mulan, Jr. It went fabulous! The crowd was great, the music went smoothly (thank you, Jesus!), and we had a lot of fun. The cast party afterwards was fun, too. We had cake, fortune cookies donated by my mom, and apple juice. We got t-shirts, lollipops, and personal notes from one of the director/producers (she's really nice). Sniffel. Now it's officially over. I am really going to miss the theatre and (*sigh*) the cast and directors. It's not like I'm never gonna see 'em again, but I won't see them for a little while....sniffel. I'm gonna miss them!

Jesus deserves all thanks for this amazing, totally fun experience. Thank you, Jesus!

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

A Commet in my Inbox

I received this comment from a reader and thought I'd clear up a few things...

dear Talia,
i like your blog very much. and your being very kind to make a giveaway. i appreciate it.
but i dont think you should count out girls who ARE NOT followers! i feel as if its discrimination. these girls love your blog as much as your "followers", most likely, they have a VERY good reason not to follow. why would they be reading your post if they didnt?
just my point of view.
sorry if you dont like what i said, but i had to say it.
and i think you should put this on your comments. you might not, and i'll understand.
but i think you should.
its a cute innocent contest, but i REFUSE to enter. even if i do follow.
just my view.
nice post.
-a follower OF GOD

First of all, I am really sorry if I seem like I am discriminating anyone. I am certainly NOT trying to. At first, I was going to allow non-followers to enter the giveaway, but one of the main points of this giveaway is to get more followers (you girls know that). I'm not trying to be selfish, and forgive me if I am. I am very glad that girls like to read my blog, even if they aren't followers. To me, it is just as good for a non-follower to read my posts as a follower. The point of this particular giveaway, however, was to get people to follow and to allow those who DO follow to enter the giveaway. I may have another giveaway in the future that allows non-followers to enter. If you are worried about following because you don't want to give out a picture or your name, you really don't have to. You can use a fake internet name & no pic of yourself. I am not trying to force anyone to follow by hosting this giveaway. I just thought it would be a fun thing to do. If you girls have anything else that you would like to say, please do. I am open to your comments. And, to answer Sarah's question, posting about the giveaway on, say, Gmail Buzz, Facebook, or Twitter DOES count, and yes, you can get an entry for "subscribing" to your own newsletter.

Girlz of God Entrants - Important Announcement

Hey, girls! Just a quick announcement...Unfortunately, Dawn is not able to donate at this time, so there is NO prize from Happy Flower Designs, and you will NOT get 10 entries for buying an item from Dawn's shop. You can still get entries for telling me your favorite items, since a lot of you have already done that. Sorry if I didn't specify, but you don't have to post "I follow Sarah" a few times. All you have to do is post it ONCE and I will count it as as many entries. Just post different THINGS that get you entries (like "I follow Kiera" and "I follow Sarah" would be different entries). It gets hard to sift through. Each comment has to go by me before it can be published, so don't think that your comments aren't working. And if you are a Hannah or another girl with the same name as someone else, could you please specify which you are? A couple other things...

*You must be a girl to enter
*PLEASE comment SEPARATELY for each type of entry (not entry itself)

Evident Beauty

God's beauty is so evident.

It is evident in the clear blue ocean, the waves that slosh over your feet, the salty spray that tickles your face...

...the colorful autumn leaves that dance, flip, turn, and fly through the air...

...the bright sunshine beating down on you as you enjoy ice-cold lemonade, go swimming, hang out with friends, attend summer camp...

...the dainty, elegant flowers with their wonderful scents...

...the heartfelt, meaningful, real smiles you get on rare occasion...

...a helping hand that helps just because they can...

...true, un-fakey devotion to all glory to Him...worshiping Him...surrendering to Him.

I often wonder how people could see all the beauty in creation and still turn away from God. Jesus is real. Just look around you and in you. There is beauty there, even if you can't see it...even if it's blurry...even if you are scarred, wounded, abused, tattered, and torn, there is still beauty in you....a  beauty that God created and placed inside you.

Psalm 139:13-14
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.

That Lovely Little Thing Called a Favicon

You know where the blogger square orange-and-white "B" usually goes (like, in the box where you type your URL)? As you can see, it has now been replaced by a lovely blue flower that matches those ^ lovely ones next to the links to different pages. What is it, you might ask? And how did I do it? Well, it's a lovely little thing called a favicon. And Blogger has made it much simpler to get your own favicon up and looking so adorable/professional! All you do is go to the "Design" tab in the top right corner (see it? Good). Then, go to the "Page Elements" tab. Above the box where you can edit blog posts, gadgets, and such, there is a little box that says "Favicon." Click edit, upload a square image, and there ya go!

No Ordinaries

On Emii's lovely blog, Girlz 4 God, she posted this quote by C.S. Lewis:

"We meet no ordinary people in life." CS Lewis, Mere Christianity

That is so true. Her post was a great reminder that there is no such thing as perfect people or ordinary people. Everyone is different - everyone is going through something we may or may not understand. But you know what? God understands. It's not our job to judge - that's God's job. It's our job to love others, to show kindness to them, to shine God's light to them, whether or not we really like them. What if we lived like that? We could most definitely inspire, motivate, convict, and change our generation for the better - for Christ's glory. So what are we waiting for? After all, we're not ordinary...and neither are they.

My Bucket List

I'm new at this whole "bucket list" thing, but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm *pretty* sure that a bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die. And while I am not going to type out everything I'd like to do before I die, here are a few...

{1} Go to...

Israel. (this particular picture is of Masada) How totally amazing would it be to go to actual biblical places? AHHH! So awesome. That would be a life-changing experience for sure.

Petra. I have been fascinated with it ever since reading about it in the Left Behind: The Kids books. It looks so amazing and interesting, and it would be so cool to go there!

Italy. Is this Colosseum in Rome super cool or what? I am part Italian, and I think it would be *so* cool to go.
{Plus Africa and London}

{2}Get a book published (for realsies). I've done self-publishing, but I think it would be really cool to get a book published by a real publishing company.

{3} Make a long speech about people who have changed my life & impacted it for the better.

{4} Go ice-skating. Never have before.

{5} Skydive. This is a *maybe.* But I do think it would be radical. (Don't you love the look on the dude-in-red's face?)

I just thought of the movie College Road Trip where Melanie and her dad skydive. They *mistakingly* (is that word?) got on a plane that they thought was for a team of divers (you know, diving - like, in water).

{6} Witness the salvation of my unsaved friends.

{7} Do a glow-in-the-dark dance routine with friends and/or family.

{8} Sing a duet from Wicked with Haley in public (that would be nerve racking...but maybe someday:-)).

{9} Preach the Good News in my town, or do a dance routine or drama that witnesses.

{10} Play an incredibly hilarious role in a play (something like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz).

Although that's not everything I want to do before I die, I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my life and dreams :-).

Pictures via & via (please know that I don't know all the content on the sites and am not responsible for anything viewed by you)

My friend Lindsey is a great singer & pianist. I encourage you to check out her video (it's an audition for a contest)!

I am Blessed

The realization struck me that I am really blessed. Really blessed. I have an amazing family, amazing friends, and an amazing God. Many times I take my blessings for granted, but I really need to be thankful. God is so amazing and giving, even when things are going badly or I'm going through troubles. What hope would I have without God? None. He is my life, my hope, my love, Who I am living for. I believe with all my heart that He deserves many thanks for all the blessings, and also for walking with me through everything, even trials. I believe that is a blessing in and of itself.

Come Save

This amazing song has been on my iPod for a little while now, but I'd never listened to it before today. Hearing it, I thought it was an awesome, amazing song. Without further ado, here are the lyrics to "Come Save" by Sarah Reeves:

Come Save
Sarah Reeves

"Time is running out
Come save
Death is creeping in
Come save
We humble ourselves and seek Your face
Pour out Your mercy like rain

Your sons and Your daughters
Cry for You
The waves of the waters
Reach for You
And all of creation rises up
And screams out Your name
Oh come save

Addicted to our pride
Come save
Consumed in self delight
Come save
Break us and free us
From these chains
We desperately need Your grace

Your sons and Your daughters
Cry for You
The waves of the waters
Reach for You
And all of creation rises up
And screams out Your name
Oh come awaken us from our sleep
Come bring us to our needs
Come whisper truth in our ears
Come save."

Happy Independence Day!

Happy 4th of July! Today as we celebrate the 4th and wear red, white & blue, let's thank God that we live in a free country. Let's pray for our country's leaders, even if we don't agree with them.

Happy Independence Day!

Who Says Jesus Music Can't be Funky?

I saw Shonlock at a TobyMac concert, and it was pretty cool!

Amazing Faith

Today, I read this post on the lovely blog Practically Pink by Emily, and I just wanted to share with you how much her faith amazes me and leaves me in awe. Her mother recently died of cancer, and even through this sad and trying time, Emily turns to God, knowing that He has a plan. She continues to trust in Him and does not blame Him or get angry at Him. She simply trusts Him. In her post, Emily says:

"I also know that we are going to be fine.  God is going to give us the strength that we need to go through this time in our lives too.  He wouldn’t give us anything that He didn’t think we could handle and He already knew this was going to happen.  We are trusting in Him and taking each day as it comes right now.  We grieve for our loss because we loved her so very much.  We are starting a new chapter in our lives and it’s going to be hard at times, but we are going to make it.  I have no doubt because God is NOT going to leave us." - Emily, Practically Pink

I hope and pray that Emily's faith encourages, inspires, and motivates you as much as it has me.

What Could Be Better?

"I've heard it said today is all we're given,
Tomorrow may not come, so you better start living,
I guess it all depends on your point of view.
Pardon me if I just don't listen
To everything the world says I'm missing,
There's nothing here and now
I'm gonna hold on to, hold on to.
I'm living in the days ahead
I'm already dancing on the streets of gold
And I can't stop celebrating in my soul,
I'm living in the days ahead
Nothing on earth could ever compare
I can't wait for the day when I get there,
When I see Jesus face to face
Tell me what could be better,
Tell me what could be better.

If home is where the heart is
Then I'm in heaven
It's the promise of tomorrow
That I've been living,
Who is waiting there I am living for, yeah.

He's everything I love and I believe in
I can hardly wait just to see Him,
To hear Him say well done
I couldn't ask for more, I couldn't ask for more.

Life is full of ups and downs,
Inside outs, round and rounds,
You can't blame me for dreaming about it, yeah." - What Could be Better, 33Miles

This Fantabulous Day

Today was pretty fantabulous :-). My mom, little sis, and I went on a short day-trip! We got my sis's hair done (it looks very cute), went out to lunch at Chipotle with two of my cousins and my aunt, and went shopping with them. We had a lot of fun! I came home to a letter from my sis who is going on a mission trip to Africa & Pascal the Chameleon that my dad bought for me! I love it! Very cute, huh?

It was really nice to get an update from my sister. She is doing well and is learning alot and growing closer to God and learning more about Him! She is growing strong in faith.
Me and my cousin Samantha got pictures taken in one of those photo booths, which was sooo fun! What we didn't know was that a recap video was being played that my aunt and Mom could see (and were recording part of...hmm) ☺.

My mom got me a couple books from a Christian book store that I am excited to read :-). Thanks, Mom!!!

It was a great day!!

One really sad and rather scary thing about today, though, was what my cousin said...that they aren't doing the Pledge of Allegiance at their school because it says God's name. Is that crazy or what? Please pray!! This is really scary to me. But God is in control!

One other thing...since this seems to be "the thing to do" (although I'm pro going against the flow ☺), I thought I'd do it...

Lately (from Jocee's blog)
