Have you ever been, like, way down or upset or disappointed or lonely or something, and then a song comes on the radio that totally touches your heart? Lyrics are SO important when it comes to music (even more important than the tune!). What the lyrics are saying and what we are saying by listening to these songs and singing them can tell a lot about us and what we believe in. Of course, I think that the tune is cool too, and you definitely want a GOOD (and often catchy) tune. But sometimes we don't even think about what the lyrics of songs are saying. And I think that it is so important that we DO. Just like we want to be careful of what we watch and read, what we LISTEN to says something about our character, too.

Here are some songs with lyrics that I really like. Please read's worth it!

"I want the love,
I want the light,
I want the beauty on the inside,
I want the One that you can't see to be the definition of me.

More than the face,
More than the girl,
More than the voice,
More than the world,
I want the truth that I believe to be the definition of me."  (Definition of Me, Mandisa)

"Empty me of the selfishness inside,
Every vain ambition and the poison of my pride,
Any foolish thing my heart holds to,
Empty me, oh please, so I can be filled with You." (Empty Me, Chris Sligh)

"Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Have I got it?
'Cause, mirror, you've always told me who I am,
And I'm finding it's not easy to be perfect,
So, sorry, you don't define me,
Sorry, you don't own me.

Who are you to tell me that I'm less that what I should be?
Who are you? Who are you?
I don't need to listen to the list of things I should do,
I won't try, I won't try.

You don't define me, you don't define me.

Mirror, I am seeing a new reflection,
I'm looking into the eyes of He who made me,
And to Him, I have beauty beyond compare,
I know He defines me." (Mirror, Barlowgirl)

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
Your perfect love is casting out fear,
Even when I'm caught in the middle of the storms of this life,
I won't turn back, I know You are near.

I will fear no evil,
For my God is with me,
And if my God is with me,
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Oh, no, You never let go,
Through the calm and through the storm,
Oh, no, You never let go,
In every high and every low,
Oh, no, You never let go,
Lord, You never let go of me.

I can see the light that is coming for the heart that holds on,
A glorious light beyond all compare,
And there will be an end to these troubles,
But until that day comes,
I'll live to know You here on the earth." (You Never Let Go, Matt Redman)

"One life, that's all I am,
Right now I can barely stand,
If You're everything You said You are,
Would You come close and hold my heart." (Hold My Heart, Tenth Avenue North)

"You only get just one time around,
You only get one shot at this,
One chance to find out the one thing that you don't wanna miss,

One day when it's all said and done,
I hope you see that it was enough,
This one ride, one try, one life to love." (One Life to Love, 33Miles)

Does what you listen to reflect the One who deserves oh so much to be listened to?

I love Jonny Diaz's song, Stand For You. It wouldn't let me post all the lyrics, but here's the bridge:

They might remove Your name from money
But You own it all the same
They kicked You out of school that’s funny
Cause how could You go away?
In a land that’s built upon Your word
It’s amazing You’ve been banned
To think that we control You is absurd
So for truth I’m here to stand

Those ARE beautiful lyrics, Talia. I totally agree, when I am feeling sad and gloomy, I listen to a song by Casting Crowns called "Glorious Day." It really inspires me and makes me feel good all inside. Have any of y'all ever heard it? It's an old hymn but they remixed it into a beautiful arrangement. Here is the chorus:
Living He Loved Me
Dying He Saved Me
Buried He Carried my sins far Away
Rising He Justified
Freely forever
One day He's coming, Oh Glorious Day
Oh Glorious Day

Aren't those beautiful lyrics? I think it just sums it all up how much Jesus truly loves us. The tune of it is really great, and I'd love for all of y'all to hear it! Again, great post Talia!
