The Bigger Picture

I know I already posted today (like, a few minutes ago), but I was just looking at the post "What Do I Do, God?" from October 2010 (click post name to go to it). In the post, I was saying how I was working outside gardening to raise money so I could sponsor a child through Compassion International. But the child that I wanted to sponsor wasn't showing up on the site anymore. I was really disappointed. And I wanted to sponsor a child from Ethiopia, and they didn't have many girls. Well, one day, I checked the Ethiopia section of the site. Well, there were a lot of boys (mostly older), and one girl, a 7-year-old named Fasika. I was ecstatic! My adopted sister's name is Fasika! I showed my mom, and we both agreed that this was God's will, and so now I sponsor Fasika, who is now 8. Wow! When I look back, I realize that God had an amazing plan, even if I didn't see it. It wasn't His will for me to sponsor another child. It was His will for me to sponsor little Fasika. And if we could just see the bigger picture, we could see how God answers prayer, how He loves and cares, and how He has a great plan for our lives.

Busy, Busy, Dreadfully Busy...

So, we've been pretty busy lately (this YEAR we have been pretty busy, actually!). Not all of it has been dreadful, though - I just liked the title because it is a VeggieTales song from...I don't remember. One of the VeggieTales movies! Anyway, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about what's going on with us...

☻Last week two very nice people named Dan and Anita did a drama camp for our co-op! It was really fun, and we had a performance Friday, in which I was "Sue," my sister was "Linda," and my brother was "Narrator 4." It went really well!
☻Me and my brother are going to be in a Mulan Jr. play! I am so excited!!! I don't know what we're going to be yet, but I'm still very ecstatic :). I didn't know if I would get to be in the play, because they were not having open tryouts this time, but during drama camp, we talked to them, and now me and Elias are planning to be in it! Wow, does God answer prayers!
☻This weekend we are doing a garage sale to fundraise for the mission trip to Africa that my sister Haley and three of her friends are going on with Royal Servants! If you think about it, please keep them in your prayers!
☻Last night I tagged along with our co-op's high school to see "Soul Surfer" for the second time. I really, really like that movie!!!
☻Tonight is our co-op's game night, so I'm looking forward to going and having a fun time of games and worship!

There is a small peek into our lives :). LOL! But anyway, I hope you are having a marvelous, wonderful, fantastic, fabulous day! I'd love to hear about it!

God's Fingerprints

Sometimes I think about nonchristians' perspective, and a question in my brain constantly stumps me as I try to think of an answer from a nonchristian's point of view. The question is this: Without God, what is there to live for? Many could say money, friends, family, material items, beauty, nature, and other temporary pleasures...but really think about it - do any of those things measure up to God? Certainly NOT! Friends and family will fail and abandon you, and as the Bible says, temporary pleasures won't last. And what if you were made by accident? What would you have to live for? Nothing, right? The truth is simple, yet hard to take in: Without God, we are nothing. If we're not living for Him, then what are we living for? When you think of the big picture of life and what happens after you die, temporary desires like toys, that book that every girl in your class has, that iPod, that boyfriend, that money, that house, that "perfect" family...none of those things can take the place of Jesus, can they? Sometimes another question daunts my mind, and it is this: How can people NOT believe in Jesus? God has left His fingerprints all over the place - even on you! He calls you His child when you accept Him into your heart. He loves you. It says so, right in His Word. He cares for you, understands you, knows EVERYTHING about you (really, everything), knows all the bad things you've done...yet still loves you more than you or I or anybody could ever imagine. They are AMAZING! Do you see the one that looks like a cross? Be sure to go to the gallery and click on "Galaxy" and see the blue cross one. WOW, God is so amazing! And He leaves His fingerprints everywhere! The content of these images could definitely not have been made by accident. Neither could we! It's not an accident that we have feelings, emotions, thoughts, interests and disinterests, and abilities. It's not an accident that Jesus came to die for us. He is amazing! Remember this: His fingerprints are everywhere. You just gotta look around - or look in the mirror at YOU! You are an amazing God-creation, no matter what you look like, where you've been, or what you've done. God still loves you and wants you to call Him your perfect Father and run to Him! He will hold open His arms for you and embrace you in them if you go to Him and ask Him to forgive you and change you. He loves you so much (that He would die for you!)! Remember one more thing: Without God, we are nothing. There is nothing to live for if we don't live for God. So why don't we live for God? His amazing grace can cover us if we ask Him! And that's an amazing gift...one that was definitely NOT by accident <3.

I Sang Today!

The post title pretty much explains it. I sang today! This week two very nice people (Dan & Anita Almich) are doing a drama camp for our co-op. And after camp today, they opened it up for the kids to sing in front of them, if they wanted to. So I sang with my sister (who was very quiet...I know it was purposeful!). Here's the thing...I don't sing in front of people other than my voice teacher. I don't. When I was eleven, I sang an original song in front of our co-op for the co-op talent show. The song was titled "I Love You" and was about how God sees us. Well, I watched a video playback of the performance and was terribly embarrassed. I sounded terrible (at least, in my opinion). Ever since then, I have not done solos in front of other people. But recently, I started lessons. And I got up and sang in front of Dan and Anita today, along with a few other people in our "audience." And I'm glad that I did. Even though I keep telling my sister and mom that "I'm not a singer!" I'm glad I got up there and sang. Dan said I needed to have some confidence, but otherwise had a very nice, smooth voice, which was a big compliment to me. And I keep telling my sister and mom, "There's a difference between a person who can sing on tune and a singer!" but they won't agree ☺. I guess I am a singer. Anyone who sings is a singer, I guess. But I just don't like singing in front of other people.  But anyway, sorry this is a kind of random post...what I'm getting at is that I'm glad I conquered this fear! Remember that with God, we can do anything! All things are possible for and with Him! (Philippians 4:13)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, everyone! This is the day so many years ago that Jesus died on the cross for US, just like He said, because He loves us! And I think that's so much better than yummy-tasting choco bunnies or Easter eggs ☺.

Let's Run This Race

Have you ever stopped a few minutes to think that...wow, God is amazing. And we are so undeserving of His love. The Bible says that God is watching us, and I believe that He is. And it is a reassuring, yet a little bit nerve-racking thought that God knows everything we say. Everything we do. Even everything we think. But He still loves us. Isn't that something? Isn't it just amazing how much we are loved by our perfect Creator? Wow. God is so amazing and good! If He didn't love you, He wouldn't have died for you. But He did. If Jesus didn't love you, He wouldn't have made creation so beautiful for you to enjoy and to show you that He is real and that He loves you. But He did. If He didn't love you, He wouldn't be here right now watching over you while you are reading this post. But He is. And here's the thing...if I were God, which I'm not, but just saying...if I were God, I think I'd probably be done with me by now. Disgusted by my thoughts, actions, words, desires, and schemes. Saddened and angry at the thought that I would choose other "gods" over the one true God. I probably would spit me out of my mouth. Yeah. But, when I think of just how good and gracious and loving and understanding and caring and all-powerful and always-there God is, I feel very thankful...Wow. God is incredible. And I don't deserve His love. Not at all. But He died on that cross for me...for you...for that kid at youth group that I passed by until someone introduced us...the kid I didn't say hi to...the boy I was mean to...my best friends...my family...my relatives...everybody. And because of the amazing love that God has shown me, I can shine His light to others, and that's an amazing opportunity. But so many times I have let it slip, let it pass, said, "I can't do it." I've heard that Little Voice inside my head, and I've ignored it. But I shouldn't. With such an amazing Light, think of this amazing opportunity that we have! In a moment, if someone asked, "If you were God, would you love you and adore you as much as He does?" I might say yes without thinking it through. But really, if I DO think it through, I am reminded of my faults...of things I wish I could erase...of HAPPENINGS I wish I could erase. But then I need to remind myself, "God has forgiven me and forgotten this wrongdoing." To me, sometimes it seems impossible that God could FORGET my wrongdoing after I asked Him to forgive me! WOW!!! Forgive and forget. I know a lot of times we can use this saying (or hear it), and say, "Oh, yeah, I forgive..and I'll forget it, too," but really, I KNOW that I don't always forget it. Others' wrongdoings (and my own) creep into my thoughts and remind me that, hey, remember what happened? Remember what so-and-so did? How come you forgave them? Why don't you bring it up again? But that is the WRONG thing to do. Everybody makes mistakes. There is not one person other than Jesus Christ Himself who hasn't sinned. And we all deserve to go to hell, to be blunt. But because Jesus loves us so much and wants us to be with HIM when we die, and not in a place of eternal death, pain, and punishment, He died for us. He took our sin upon His shoulders and carried it to the cross...and died there, with our sin heavily sitting on Him. He took the beating for us. He took the spear in the side for us. He bled for us. He was nailed to a cross for us. Love doesn't get any more real than that. And we worry about silly things like how our hair looks, if we fit in, if that guy likes us, if our best friend is ditching us, if we're gonna make good grades, if we're gonna be popular, if we could just lose ten pounds...when really our main goal in life should be to point others to the love of Jesus. We are so undeserving, but He is so gracious. And I'm not writing this post to make you feel terrible about yourself. I'm writing this post so that we can remember how great God is, and thank Him for that. Let's tell others the good news of God's love, and let's be an example to other people in our actions, words, thoughts...lives.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Let's tell the whole world the good news that Jesus saves, Jesus is alive, Jesus loves, and Jesus wants to know them. Let's throw off everything that hinders (sin) and run the race of life Jesus has marked out for us with an eternal prize in sight...being with our perfect Savior Jesus forever.

That Whole "Purity" Thing

















1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

The Bible talks about purity many times. So do some people. But what does purity mean to you personally?
Make a list of words that remind you of purity (or things that remind you of purity). Or draw pictures. Here are a few things that come into my head when I think of purity:

Waiting to kiss until marriage
A glass of clear, clean water
NOT having premarital sex
Striving towards God's plan and purpose and staying as far away from sin as possible
Untouched snow

Are some of the words on your list similar to the words listed above? Now, decide (or evaluate) where you stand in your thinking about purity. Rate yourself on a scale from one to ten, with ten being "all-out for purity!" and one being "stay away."

Now whether you're "stay away," "all-out," or "in the middle," you should know this...

♥Purity is in God's plan and desire for your love life.♥

It doesn't matter if you think boys are gross, like hanging out with them, or are ga-ga over guys - it's true: Purity is in God's plan and desire for your love life! He so desires for you to be pure in not only your love life but in every single aspect of your life. But what does it even mean to be pure? And how can you get pure? And why would you want to anyway? Well, let's focus on each of these questions...

What does it mean to be pure?  
Purity can be a toughie to describe. But I hope this post will help to change your perspective on purity if it's bad. I believe that being pure means serving God in all you think, say, and do, and being clean of sin in every area of your life - physical, mental, spiritual. And I know you and I will make mistakes - everybody does (except God, of course!)! But if you DO make a mistake, the right thing to do would be to confess it to God and ask Him to cleanse you from that sin. I believe that being pure would NOT be "seeing how close I can get to the line of impurity," but rather "how far AWAY I can get from the line of impurity."

How can I become pure?
Before we continue, please understand that purity is usually not an overnight dealio. Although your perspective can change overnight, usually you do not become pure with the snap of your fingers. Becoming pure is not just asking God to make you pure - you have to act on it and actually put purity into practice.
Here is a "S.A.Y.O." code, which stands for "Seek, Act, Yearn, Obey" that I've made to help you better understand and act on becoming pure.

S.A.Y.O. - Becoming Pure

Seek God out and ask Him to make you pure in Him.
Act out of purity in everything you think, say, and do.
Yearn to be pure as Jesus is pure, and continually ask Him to cleanse you.
Obey God's plan of purity for your life.

Why would you want to be pure, anyway?
This is a difficult question to answer. Many people do not want to be pure, and it is shown in their actions and words. But I believe that a lot of us have a yearning for a pure life that pleases Jesus Christ. Since I am not going to tell you personally why you should or do want to be pure, but I will tell you some reasons why I desire purity personally.

Because purity pleases God.
Because purity leads to many godly blessings.
Because purity does not involve the heartache, rebellion, brokenness, and hurt that impurity does.
Because pleasures that come from purity really last, unlike temporary pleasures that come from impurity, which only last a moment.
Because being pure is honoring others and also honoring the body God gave you (the Bible says that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit).
Because purity shows respect for others and also for ourselves in that we do not just give ourselves away to whoever wants us.

Purity is definitely God-given, and it cannot be gained or obtained without God! A life of purity is so much more prosperous in godly ways and actions than a life of impurity. Even if you do believe that it is too late for you to be pure, erase that thinking and ask God to make you pure in Him. Then wait. Wait for His blessings, for His provision, for His plan and desire. The outcome will be so much more desirable, admirable, and pure than doing it on your own.

Lybecker Concert

Last night, the band that me, my sister Haley, and our friends Kylie and Brent are in (CryOut) opened for a Lybecker concert! It was really fun. Before the concert, a lot of us were really stressed and there was a tiny bit of conflict in the band. But you know what? The concert went GREAT, and I know that must've been a God-thing!!! We played 5 songs - "The Lost Get Found" by Britt Nicole, "After the World" by Disciple, "You Are For Me" by Kari Jobe, "I Will Praise You" (not sure who by), and "Better" by my sister Haley!! The other opening band was also a local band, Set Apart. They played guitar really well. Anyway, I thought I'd share with you how our band got the name "CryOut"...

So, my dad thought of the name CryOut, and the three other band members really liked it. But here's the thing...I didn't. Being stubborn and picky, I did not like the name! So, while the other band members (along with our moms) were pondering the name, I went into the restroom (we were at our homeschool co-op) and prayed and really thought about it. And then, it must've been a God-thing, but I changed my mind and came out and said, "Okay, I decided I do like the name." It turns out, while I was in the restroom thinking and praying about the name, the other band members asked our friend Rob (he's in Set Apart), "Hey, Rob, what should we name our band?" And Rob, unknowing of our pondering the name "CryOut", said, "Remember that verse that says that if we don't praise God, the rocks will cry out." He had just suggested the name CryOut completely unaware of my dad's suggestion of the name. That was such a God-thing! Seriously! He changed my heart and also confirmed that CryOut was the right name for us. So that's where the name CryOut was 'born' :-).

When it's a "No"

A little while ago, I sent in a book proposal to a publishing company to see if they would be interested in publishing my book Tania's Faith, which I wrote through NaNoWriMo. Well, I got a reply today...and it's a no. It turns out, the publishing company that I sent my query letter to is mainly based on publishing Christian living and missions...but not much fantasy/fiction. Honestly, though, I'm not mad. Disappointed, a little bit, but not mad. I mean, if it's a "no", then it must not have been God's perfect will, right? Romans 8:28 says this:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Let's check out Jeremiah 29:11-13...

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

It's not always gonna be a "yes." In fact, a lot of the time we will receive "no's" in our life. But when we DO get "yes's", we praise God. What do we do when we get "no's"? Praise Him. Either way, God has an amazing plan for YOUR life, no matter if you get a "yes" or "no" to something you want to do. I'm gonna keep trusting God to do what He wants with my book, and I'll keep trusting that He knows what He's doing. 'Cause He so does, doesn't He? I'm not gonna get super angry and upset over this "no." I know that God has something better in mind and in store for me...and for you, too.

Lyrics

Have you ever been, like, way down or upset or disappointed or lonely or something, and then a song comes on the radio that totally touches your heart? Lyrics are SO important when it comes to music (even more important than the tune!). What the lyrics are saying and what we are saying by listening to these songs and singing them can tell a lot about us and what we believe in. Of course, I think that the tune is cool too, and you definitely want a GOOD (and often catchy) tune. But sometimes we don't even think about what the lyrics of songs are saying. And I think that it is so important that we DO. Just like we want to be careful of what we watch and read, what we LISTEN to says something about our character, too.

God Wants to KNOW You

Monica sighed as she flopped onto her bed with her history book. "Boring, boring, boring," she said aloud. Monica detested all homework - except music. That was her thing, her hobby, her talent. And she loved it. But history? "Nuh-uh," she said as she gave another exasperated sigh. "All it talks about is people who lived way-back-when and did 'important' stuff. Nothing that any of these people did really applies to ME, though. I bet George Washington and Columbus and Shakespeare didn't have the same problems I do." She shook her head and turned to the assigned page. "Besides," she went on, still talking to herself, "if someone wrote information about me in a book, I'm sure it wouldn't tell readers a thing about who I really am. Readers don't KNOW the people in the books, so what good is it to read them?" She scanned the page. On it was a picture of Rosa Parks. Probably another lady who was nothing to do with me! she thought. But as she read, the story drew her in. She decided to read aloud. After all, Mom and Dad were working, and Mandy was at her friend's house, so Monica was alone at the house. No one would hear her reading aloud or talking to herself. "'Rosa Parks was an African-American born on February 4th, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her family consisted of-" Monica stopped. "Let's just skip to the good stuff," she said, turning the page. "'On December 1st, 1955, when Rosa was 42 years old, she refused to give up her rightful seat on the bus for a white passenger. Rosa parks was then arrested-" Monica stopped again. Maybe this story was worth reading.
        After finishing the story of Rosa Parks, Monica pondered the story. "Huh," she said. "I wish I knew Rosa Parks. But even if she was still alive, and even if Mom and Dad would let me go meet her - cause we live in the same state, after all - I'm sure she wouldn't want anything to do with someone like me. After all, she's, like, this celebrity. I'm just Monica."
It has been so long since I have written a story as an analogy! But I think this may be a good example of how so many people desire to know God and to know Someone bigger than themselves. Some of us dream of knowing celebrities or famous people from history (even if we despise most of our homework, like Monica). But many of us think that God is UN-knowable. Or maybe we know lots of information ABOUT God, but don't really have a personal relationship with Him. First of all, before we cover HOW to have that relationship wtih Jesus, let me tell you something very important - God WANTS to know you. Check out this verse, where Jesus is praying to God, the Father, for all believers.

John 17:24-25
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
   25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you[e] known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Don't you see? God wants to know you. He created you, and He knows everything about you - your quirks, dreams, wishes, secret desires, hurts, resent, everything! He knows about all of the pain you've gone through (or are going through), and He wants to be there for you through all of that. He IS there for you through all of that. But the problem comes in where we don't have a personal relationship with Jesus. I don't believe that people "find" Jesus. He is always there. He's waiting for you to run to Him. But how, how can you have a personal relationship with Jesus?

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

It's as simple as that! And you can start a personal relationship with Jesus by doing that, and also by spending time with God and in His Word. He really does care about everything that goes on in your life. He wants to be your best friend, your perfect, always-there Father!

This verse sums it up so well...

1 John 3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

God desires to know you! Make that decision to follow God today - to know HIM and not just know the facts.

My Brother's Spiritual Birthday!

I am very excited to say that today is my brother Elias' 4th spiritual birthday! Four years ago on this date, Elias asked Jesus to come into His life and be His Savior! I am so proud of my little bro. I'm excited to see what God will do with Him as the years go by. He has awesome plans for Elias!

Your Crowning Glory

So, the other day, I was sick on the couch. Fun, huh? But really...it was terrible. I hate getting the throw-up flu (plus a tiny fever)! But anyway...to the point - I watched Princess Diaries while I was sick. Both of them. And one scene I like in Princess Diaries 2 is when Julie Andrews (one of my favorite actresses) is singing the song "Your Crowning Glory." I looked up the lyrics and was pleasantly surprised at them.

Pretty cool, huh? Like I was talking about in one of the previous posts, The One Who Will Pursue You, guys may sugar-coat their words, but the one who will really pursue you and love you and be there for you will love your heart over your looks, and - MOST importantly - will love God over you. And as this song says, all girls are treasures of God. All deserve to be desired and cared for and pursued. And even if guys don't do that (and even if they DO), God will. He already does!

Oh, and one more thing...I prayed not to get sick. I really did NOT want to throw up. But I did. But you know what? I don't blame God for that. I know He allows stuff for reasons that sometimes only He knows. But I do thank Him for healing me.
